It's Christmas, Eve - Review
What’s that old saying?
“Never judge a movie by the singer turned actor playing the lead?”
Did I get that right? Because, that’s EXACTLY what I did with this movie. I didn’t want to like it. In fact, I expressed my pre-judgy thoughts to Emma over at The Hallremark ::ahem:: several times in the weeks leading up to its premiere. To be honest, I was going to only show up for the Sweaters and the Hate Watch.
But y’all, here’s where I eat massive amounts of crow, because…
I. LOVED. THIS. MOVIE.
Between Liam’s amazing relationship with his daughter, Abby (who was ADORABLE), Eve’s struggles with making peace with her hometown, the fight to keep arts programs in schools, and of course the romance, I was completely taken in with all of it. This movie is going to be my litmus test for the season, y’all. The one that I compare all others to moving forward.
And in case you thought this post was just going to be screencaps of Liam’s Sweaters and Other Shirts, you weren’t wrong. I’m kidding. It’s only 50% Shirt Talk. I did notice other people, aka here are my Top Five Moments from It’s Christmas, Eve:
1. The Realization That We Were All Probably in Trouble
The sweater. The singing. The dad/daughter moment. It was all way too much at once. I, nor my ovaries, were prepared for any of this.
We were only 13 minutes in at this point, y’all.
Sidenote: Did you catch the Rainbow Flag Sticker in the window up there on the left? HERE FOR IT.
2. This Confirmation That We Were All In Fact Very Much In Trouble
Honestly, I have no idea what was even happening in this scene. I couldn’t focus on anything but the shirt, coupled with the one hand on the leg pose, and the other hand tinkering on the piano.
Wait, what were we talking about again?
3. This Voice Over Moment
Letters with a Voice Over are my favorite— I blame the 3974284 hours of costume dramas I’ve consumed over the course of my life. When Eve pulled this card out I was scrambling for the remote to pause and read it, but then Liam’s voice hit my ears and y’all— the audible gasp that left my body at this moment. I’m embarrassed*.
*Lol, no I’m not.
4. IT’S SUPER DUSTY IN HERE RIGHT NOW
Eve’s struggle with her dad’s loss throughout the movie hit me pretty hard as I’m super close with my own dad. It was this moment that broke me though. Watching her react to this song, started by her dad and finished by the man she was falling in love with? YEP. I CRIED REAL TEARS. Don’t lie— you know you did too.
HE SAID THE WORD FINALLY AND GRABBED BOTH SIDES OF HER FACE AND MAN KISSED HER AND I DIED. In fact, I am still dead. I am writing this as a dead person because everything about that moment was perfection and I’m still not over it.
BONUS - Would These Two Stay Together?
97% sure that they would based on the potential family singing scenarios alone. Plus, I have zero doubt that Liam would make Eve laugh all the time and that is worth its weight in gold.
What do you think?? Do you think they’d live happily ever after?
Rating: ★★★★★ - WHEN CAN I BUY THIS? NOW. YOU CAN BUY IT NOW. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.
