Hallmark Channel's 2019 Spring Fever
I don’t know what it’s like where you live, but here in New England, it’s still feels very much like winter. It’s not as cold, no, but the trees are bare, the skies are a perpetual grey, and all the snow still hanging around is brown and full of leaves and trash. Blergh.
And while it may still take some time for the warmer weather to actually reach us here in the Northeast, Hallmark is giving us a way to experience it all a bit early— even if it’s only for two hours at a time— because it’s SPRING FEVER, Y’ALL. SIX new movies are coming at us!
Now, I try not to watch too many previews before any of these movies so I can go in fresh, but then Hallmark was like, "Here. Have an hour long Tyler Hynes Special where we will give him puppies to hold" because Hallmark is actively trying to kill me and I LOVE THEM FOR IT.
Just like I did with the Winterfest Preview, I watched and prejudged all six movies based on their couple of minutes of clips, which is obviously a very fair and balanced thing to do. As a whole, I can wrap up this Spring Season with one word— BEARDS. Four of the six leading men this season (side-eyeing both Andrew Walker and Brendan Penny rn) will be bringing us some much needed facial hair and I AM HERE FOR IT. Thank you Hallmark. Thank you.
In all seriousness though (lol), join me as I rank all six Spring Fever movies!
6 - Easter Under Wraps
April 20th at 8pm/7c
Starring: Fiona Gubelmann and Brendan Penny
Erin (Fiona Gubelmann) is going undercover to work at her family’s chocolate factory and meets the Head Chocolate Man (Brendan Penny) who shows her new ideas for the company. Does this mean Erin’s family is about to lose the entire business? Or are they trying to market something new? Either way, I’m kinda over this type of story. ::nervous laughter:: Plus— what’s happening with this chocolate box they teased us with? What kind of monster pairs jelly beans with chocolate?? Y’all— no.
5 - True Love Blooms
April 6th at 8pm/7c
Starring: Sara Rue and Jordan Bridges
It pains me to put this one so low on the list because Sara Rue is ridiculously funny and I ADORE her work. I’ve been waiting for her to appear in another movie since her debut (and one of my all time faves) All for Love. But again, I’m not crazy about the story line of “save the community garden from the Bad Developers”. Although, I ain’t mad about getting to see Jordan Bridges walk around all business-y in a suit. PLUS there’s potential for some inadvertent hand touching while gardening. Yes, please.
4 - Love to the Rescue
March 23rd at 8pm/7c
Starring: Nikki Deloach and Michael Rady
Two single parents try to adopt the same dog for their kid— WHOOPS. Instead of disappointing either one of their children, they decide to co-foster the dog for a month, which seems like a super normal and easy thing to do. I mean, what could go wrong? Oh, other than they could fall in love and give us playing with the dog montages??? I’M IN. Also, I’ve been digging Michael Rady playing stoic, type-a characters. He does it really well and has that perfect dead pan delivery when needed.
3 - Bottled with Love
April 13th at 8pm/7c
Starring: Bethany Joy Lenz and Andrew Walker
A woman pours her heart out in a letter, seals it in a bottle, throws it into the nearby water and then gets arrested for littering and falls in love with her arresting officer. Wait. That’s not right.
Okayyy— a woman does pour her heart out into a letter and she does put it in a bottle and throw it into the water, but she doesn’t get arrested. She forgets about the letter until one day she gets an email from the person who found it.
Um, I have questions. Did she add her email to this letter? Why would she add her email address to something like this? Will we get to see this person finding the bottle? Will they wonder why there’s an email address? But, most importantly— where can I get pancakes this big?
Questions aside, I’m super excited about this pairing. I’ve been dying for Bethany Joy Lenz and Andrew Walker to do something for Hallmark since their Lifetime Christmas movie, Snowed-Inn Christmas. They’ve got great chemistry and I can’t wait to see how they bring this all together.
2 - Flip that Romance
March 16th at 8pm/7c
Starring: Julie Gonzalo and Tyler Hynes
Hi. My name is Lisa and I’m addicted to HGTV.
Flipping shows? Check. Renovation or selling competitions? Double Check. Unrealistic about how much they’ll actually be entertaining house hunting couples? I. WATCH. THEM. ALL.
Hallmark basically created a Venn Diagram of my interests and made a movie about it, which I’m 150% on board with. Plus, enemies-to-lovers is one of my favorite tropes.
1 - A Brush with Love
Starring: Arielle Kebbel and Nick Bateman
ARIELLE KEBBEL IS IN ANOTHER HALLMARK MOVIE AND YES, SHOUTY CAPS ARE REQUIRED.
Okay, now that that is out of the way, um, I legit have no idea what this movie is actually about. There’s something about painting a man and magic and then this guy shows up— a literal puppy in human form— and I’m confused. The only thing I did pick up on from this preview is that this guy may or may not have been her secret admirer when they were younger and he may or may not still harbor secret feelings for her. If this is the case, SIGN ME UP, YASSSS.
Life-long secret pining is my most favorite trope ever and this is why this is my number one this season. I’ve got high hopes for this story. Please don’t let me down, Hallmark. GAH.
What about you?
Which movie(s) are you most looking forward to?
